About Engvall & Hlavinka
Engvall & Hlavinka, L.L.P. was founded by John Engvall, Jr. and J. Jonathan Hlavinka in October 2001. Both Mr. Engvall and Mr. Hlavinka began their careers at medium and large Houston law firms, respectively, before forming firms of their own in the 1990's.
John Engvall, Jr. started his own firm in 1998 after spending four years as an associate and two years as a partner at a medium sized firm in Houston. Jon Hlavinka had formed his own firm in 1994. In 2001 Engvall & Hlavinka, L.L.P. was founded after Mr. Engvall and Mr. Hlavinka poured ten months of their lives into the defense of a complex case in which a jury returned a verdict for $900,000.00, which was $9.1 million less than the carriers had offered, $19.1 million less than Plaintiffs' last demand (received during jury deliberations), and $33.1 million less than what Plaintiffs asked of the jury during closing arguments.
The firm has gravitated toward larger cases involving either deaths, serious injury or large commercial disputes (including real estate and insurance) and involving seven and eight figure damage models.
