John Engvall, Jr.
Martindale-Hubbell rating: AV
After graduating from Baylor University (B.B.A. 1989, J.D. 1992), John worked for a medium sized firm in Houston for 6 years, 4 as an associate and 2 as a partner, then started his own firm in 1998.
At Baylor, he was named to the GTE All Academic Athletic team while lettering in track in 10,000 meters. John also received the Legal Professionalism Award from Baylor Law School in 1991. In 2006, he was nominated to the Texas Bar Foundation Fellows, at age 39.
John divides his time between coverage and contractual indemnity disputes, large property damage claims and severe injury claims.
He has tried to jury verdicts and won property damage cases and severe injury claims involving 7 and 8 figure damage models. Those verdicts have included multiple brain injury cases, 18 wheeler death cases, limited partnership disputes and complex chemical plant business interruption cases.
John has enjoyed picking juries from panels as large as 100 members for two days, and in counties all over Texas. More recently he has handled complex injury and coverage cases outside the state of Texas.
When not berating his opponents, John enjoys running marathons, quail hunting (without politicians), fly fishing, cycling and playing in the dirt with his 2 and 4 year-old boys.
